Russ & Daughters CAFE

127 Orchard Street, NYC

"RUSS & DAUGHTER'S IS the perfect example of a NY institution that CONTINUES TO reinvent itself- IT STARTED AS A PUSHCART 100 years ago and IN THEIR 100th YEAR THEY OPENED A CAFE. The space is beautiful and the food is delicious, both old world and new."

Threes brewing

333 douglass street

Brooklyn, NY

"THREES opened in Gowanus and almost instantly became a favorite of mine and lots and lots of Brooklynites. It's both a brewery and a bar with a beautiful backyard (and a coffee shop during the day — It truly is the modern incarnation of a public house). The kitchen operates as a residency for both established and upcoming restaurants. They take over for about two or three weeks at a time. Battersby and Dover were there recently, Roberta's has been a couple of times, Daniel Delaney's BBQ place too, and Insa, the Korean restaurant from the Good Fork team, which is slated to open nearby this fall."

Leyenda

221 smith street

brooklyn, NY

"this place is BEYOND great! It's a Latin-inspired cocktail lounge from the women behind Clover Club. It just opened about a month ago and is already really popular in the neighborhood and drawing people to an area of BK that is not thought of as a serious cocktail destination. The space is colorful and lively and has a backyard, but the best seat in the house is at one of the windows up front which open on to Smith Street. There's also a menu of light fare from Sue Torres who used to be at Suenos IN CHELSEA."

#4) El ray (josh from Russ and Daughters PICK)

"El Rey which is also owned by the guy from Morgenstern's. It is the quintessential cute coffee shop only with infinitely better food courtesy of their incrediblE chef,  Gerardo Gonzales."

#5) ESTELA (DEVRA'S PICK)

"This is pretty much the darling of the food world and has been for a bit now. It's hot outside of the restaurant world too (The Obamas ate there last year). The food is so incredibly good- it's outrageous."

6) Buvette (DEVRA'S PICK)

"This is truly one of my favorite places to eat anywhere. It's crowded and small and so charming! It's pretty much Paris, but in NYC. One of the absolute best things about the dining scene here is that you can walk into a restaurant and literally feel like you got off a plane in another city. The food is simple, but well executed and they serve my favorite steak tartare in the city. Sitting at the bar is the pro-move here, especially the corner seat. "

7) Lupulo(DEVRA'S PICK)

"George Mendes of Aldea recently opened this casual Portuguese restaurant. the food is really good and Portuguese fare is hard to find in town. Plus, the space is beautiful. Eater's Ryan Sutton recently gave it two stars. Another nice thing about Lupulo is that it's at 29th and 6th, filling a need for a good restaurant in a rather restaurant barren area."

8) Grand army (IVY FROM LEYENDA'S PICK)

"Grand Army IS run by four super talented guys including the inimitable bartender Damon Boelte and the drinks are serious and on point."

9) ARCADE BAKERY (DEVRA's PICK)

"It's tucked away in an office building and turns out some of the best pastries probably in the U.S. However, there's no seating or ambience, but a pastry can be picked up on the way to somewhere."

10) JOseph leonard (ALIA'S PICK)

"Come for amazing food (served without hoopla) and stay for the cool vibe and backdrop of weekend hip-hop.  The people couldn't be nicer and you'll leave with a host of new friends.  It's a true neighborhood spot."

11) MISSION CHINESE (JOSH FROM THREE'S PICK)

"Pretty much everyone I spoke with for this story referenced mission chinese.  I haven't been but it just jumped to the TOP of my list"- Alia

12) SEAMORE'S (JOSH FROM THREE'S PICK)

"it's packed right now.  here's the secret, go at 4pm on a tuesday and sit at the bar for a seafood meal to remember."

13) DOMINIQUE ANSEL KITCHEN (DEVRA'S PICK)

"The most intense desserts probably anywhere from the Cronut King. To give you an idea, he only serves two types of soft serve and one of them is burrata flavored."
